He may have long since left the Premier League, but Mario Balotelli shall remain forever in our hearts. The ex-Liverpool flop was once again amongst the goals for Nice on Sunday, netting a late winner against Lorient before, in classic Balotelli fashion, seeing red just six minutes later.

Balotelli’s goal, his sixth in five games for Nice, came on 86 minutes, with the Italian producing a sublime curling finish. However, the striker was duly booked for removing his shirt during the celebrations…

The, on 92 minutes, Balotelli got himself involved in a rather minor-looking clash with Lorient’s Steven Moreira, which saw the former Manchester City man receive a second yellow and his marching orders…

Never a dull moment with Mario, is there?!

Despite the unfortunate end to the game, Nice remain top of Ligue 1 courtesy of a superb unbeaten start to the season.

  1. Jarren says:

That rule is one of the most infuriating things about football.

It’s clearly been introduced at the behest of sponsors.

Of course, FIFA’s official line is:

“Removing one’s shirt after scoring is unnecessary and players should avoid such excessive displays of joy.”

    Seriously. That’s the official line.
