Saudi Arabia went top of the Asian World Cup qualifying Group D on Tuesday, leapfrogging Australia after a 3-0 home win against United Arab Emirates.

The game at Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City was lit up by Fahad Al-Muwallad’s stunning volley, which is surely a contender for goal of the season.

The cracking goal came on 73 minutes with the game still scoreless.

Found in the UAE box by a magnificent long pass, Al-Muwallad buried the perfect volley in the far corner of the goal to the send the home fans (and players) wild…

There’s nothing more satisfying than a perfectly connected first-time volley. What a cracker!

The Saudis would ultimately go on to win the game 3-0 and take pole position in Group D, with 10 points from their first four games.

Looks ok from that angle, but still I think van Persie’s shows more skill.

Power is one thing, but placement is what sets them apart.

This was a blast. Van Persie showed power AND precision.

In my opinion it’s worth Puskas Award, good concentration, and running with good control of the ball fall was a great and harmonious

This is the best goal of the year 2016 worldwide according to many football (soccer) experts. I think it will hold this position for many years to come.
