Bournemouth and Stoke will both be playing their football in the top-flight next season after a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium ensured their Premier League survival for another season.

However, the game was marred by an appalling two-footed lunge from Cherries’ midfielder Harry Arter, which somehow only resulted in a booking for the midfielder.

The incident came in the 27th minute, with the Republic of Ireland international jumping in on Stoke schemer Joe Allen.

Thankfully, Allen emerged unscathed from what could well have been a leg-breaking tackle.

However, incredibly, referee Paul Tierney only brandished a yellow car, despite protests from the Stoke players.

Speaking after the final whistle (from the 0:50 mark) Cherries boss Eddie Howe defended Arter, claiming that the lunge would’ve been viewed as a “magnificent tackle” five or ten years ago.

We’re not entirely sure about that to be honest, Eddie.

Soon after Lys Mousset would score an own-goal on his full debut for Bournemouth, although on the hour-mark, Junior Stanislas would level the scores.

Mame Biram Diouf would then put the Potters ahead from close-range before another own-goal, this time from Ryan Shawcross, would level the scores again.

With Hull losing to Sunderland, both Bournemouth and Stoke can now focus on next season’s Premier League.

But what a shocking challenge from Arter.

Awful, awful tackle. FA will be sending him a letter on Monday morning I suspect.

Yet another howler from another referee – sorry chaps, but your days are numbered. It’s AI/video reffing for me, which can’t come soon enough.

  3. Olivier says:

I don’t understand how these are still a part of football… I mean it barely takes any brains to realize how dangerous both of your feet can be to the leg you’re diving towards.
