PSG kept the pressure in Ligue 1 leaders Monaco on Saturday, courtesy of a thumping 5-0 win against Bastia.

The goal of the game came from Marco Veratti, who scored a cracking long-range effort.

However, the strike was mired in controversy, with the Italian midfielder cheekily catching out Bastia ‘keeper Jean Leca, who was actually trying to help up Veratti’s injured team-mate, Blaise Matuidi.

The incident happened on 35 minutes, with PSG already 1-0 up courtesy of Lucas Moura.

With Matuidi lying down injured inside the Bastia box after a Paris attack, the ball found its way out to the right flank where it went out of play.

Leca looked to help the prone Matuidi back up on his feet, but in doing was totally taken surprise when Veratti lashed in a superb effort from outside the box.

Not surprisingly, Leca was livid with the officials after conceding goal. And indeed, it was rather cheeky.

Still, in fairness, Leca really should’ve kept his eye on the ball and not on Matuidi.

PSG would go on to score three more goals to enjoy a 5-0 win which sees them three points behind Monaco at the top of Ligue 1,

However, Monaco still have a game in hand and look set to finally break the Parisians’ recent stranglehold on the title.

Clear lack of class in my book, especially when you definitely don’t need this to beat bottome of the league Bastia… To be fair this is not the first time Paris player show it and I can’t help but be delighted about Monaco (probably) winning the title in the end.

I hope Monaco win the League!
Veratti is a prick, even his own players were telling him to wait. There’s no gamesmanship in sport, even when you’re playing the team at the foot of the table.

    what an asshole.

Agreed, Olivier – this reminds me of the sort of thing done by Fergie’s Man U

There is no honor among mercenaries. There will be much crowing about this from him, mark my word.

  6. AS says:

No class at all. But the officials could have stept up there and given offside – there’s the other player stood in the keepers eye sight of the ball waving his arms as well as Matuidi on the floor.
