Germany lifted their second European U21 Championship title after beating Spain 1-0 in Friday’s final.
Spain came into the final as strong favourites, however, despite having lots of possession, they couldn’t break down a disciplined German side.
The only goal of the game came on 40 minutes, with Hertha Berlin defender Mitchell Weiser heading home a superb looping effort after a fantastic cross from Jeremy Toljan.
Spain tried to get themselves back into the game, but their star-studded side failed to find the attacking edge which had propelled them into the final in style.
As for Germany, managed by former international Stefan Kuntz, ex-Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry impressed while a number of the side may well now make the step up to the senior side ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
The Germans can now make it a double success this weekend, with Jogi Loew’s senior side meeting Chile in the Confederations Cup final on Sunday.
