Germany lifted their second European U21 Championship title after beating Spain 1-0 in Friday’s final.

Spain came into the final as strong favourites, however, despite having lots of possession, they couldn’t break down a disciplined German side.

The only goal of the game came on 40 minutes, with Hertha Berlin defender Mitchell Weiser heading home a superb looping effort after a fantastic cross from Jeremy Toljan.

Spain tried to get themselves back into the game, but their star-studded side failed to find the attacking edge which had propelled them into the final in style.

As for Germany, managed by former international Stefan Kuntz, ex-Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry impressed while a number of the side may well now make the step up to the senior side ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

The Germans can now make it a double success this weekend, with Jogi Loew’s senior side meeting Chile in the Confederations Cup final on Sunday.

Pretty impressive, considering most of Germanys “elite” talents are at the Confed Cup, with players like Goretzka, Brandt, Werner, Kimmich, Sule, (Sane) still eligible for the under-21s.
Unlucky for Spain, Germany played their best game in the final. They also had figured out that the way to stop them was to take Dani Ceballos out of the game, who deservdly won Player of the Tournament.
