Leeds booked their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, with Thomas Christiansen’s much-changed side beating Port Vale 4-1 at Elland Road.

Three of those goals came courtesy of Spanish attacker Samuel Sáiz, who marked his Leeds debut by scoring with his first three shots for the club in competitive football.

The 26-year-old ex-Real Madrid player netted the opener on 12 minutes, after Stuart Dallas’ centre had come back off the post.

Ex-Leeds midfielder Michael Tonge got one back for Port Vale before the break.

However, on the hour-mark, Sáiz netted a quick-fire brace, deftly rounding the ‘keeper for the first before firing the second into the top corner.

Quite a fine hat-trick and a decent way to mark your arrival in front of your home fans!

Caleb Ekuban made it four for the hosts before Gavin Gunning was sent off for the visitors at the death.

However, the night belonged to Sáiz who looks being a real star at Elland Road this season.

As a Port Vale fan I am fairly sure I drove to Leeds last night. It certainlu wasn’t at Port Vale. If it was we probably would have only lost 3-1. As last nights song went, ‘how shit must you be, it’s only 4-1’ and ‘ you’re nothing special, we lose every week.’ Oh gallows humour!
