The USA’s farcical quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup ended with a stout fart on Tuesday evening, terminating with a 2-1 defeat against Trinidad & Tobago.

Bruce Arena’s side went a goal behind early on when US defender Omar Gonzalez awkwardly shanked a cross into his own goal…

Trinidad then extended their lead 10 minutes before half-time when Alvin Jones unleashed the fury to spanner one past Tim Howard from 30-plus yards out…

“One for the legend books!” indeed. Like taking baby from a candy, you might say.

US golden boy Christian Pulisic then pulled one back a minute or two after the restart with a clinical finish of his very own…

Despite starting the evening in third place, the USA sank to fifth by the close of play thanks to Panama’s 2-1 win over Costa Rica and Honduras’ 3-2 win over Mexico, which featured this stunning finish from Eddie Hernandez, who cleverly utilised the back of Memo Ochoa’s head to equalise…

So, it’s Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama through to Russia 2018, Honduras playing-off against Australia in November and the Yanks condemned to miss their first World Cup since 1986.

Bummer, dudes.

For the benefit of our American brethren, please feel free to console yourselves by immersing yourself in soul-stirring World Cup 1994 anthem ‘Gloryland’ for old time’s sake…

Did that REALLY happen? I am unable to believe that. They came in fifth in the easiest qualification group of them all? Horrendous. Is there any footage of Lalas sparing a thought or two on the matter?

Thank you, T&T. Now I won’t have to watch them lose all three in the WC. I’m an American and I hate the national team. I’ve been watching them play horrible soccer since the ’94 WC in the U.S. I don’t even want them to win at this point, I’d just like them to be able to play decent soccer, not kickball. It’s horrible.

Tee-hee-hee “stout fart” & “bummer, dudes”

Interesting take, Ron…you know as an adult you can choose to do whatever you like. If you hate them perhaps change the channel? We may not be Barcelona but we’ve had some decent runs of form over the years. Got what we deserved this time but not having Pulisic at the WC is a loss regardless of your bias.

We can’t be the best at everything in the world, so liberty and freedom will have to define us as the greatest country ever on the face of the earth. Freedom ain’t free, and it don’t come from kicking a stupid ball around. We’re quite happy to let the rest of the world have their precious little soccer.

    (lol)
