Antonio Candreva denied spitting in the direction of the Inter Milan fans after his side played out a 0-0 draw with Lazio at the San Siro on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the first-half, as home fans jeered the Italian international.

After failing to keep the ball in play, the winger spat in the direction of the fans before dishing out a few expletives.

However, while it did look at though Candreva was aiming both his flem and frustration at the stands, the former Lazio man was quick to placate the critics.

The 30-year-old said:

Some things were reported that I shouldn’t even have to be here denying.

Players spit on the field a lot, it doesn’t mean you are spitting at someone, let alone the fans. I also swore because I was angry at myself for not keeping the ball in play.

I just wanted to make that clear and say always Forza Inter.

So there you have it!

The result sees Inter stay third, eight points behind leaders Napoli, while Lazio are fifth, four points further back.
