Accrington Stanley fell to a 2-1 away defeat against Crawley Town in League Two on Saturday afternoon, though the losers can at least claim to have scored the best goal of the game.
Unfortunately, however, the goal in question must also technically be credited to Crawley, as it was midfielder Jimmy Smith who – entirely unwittingly – sent a powerful header arcing into his own net to grab a 57th-minute consolation for the visitors.
Indeed, Smith was stood in precisely the wrong place when teammate Josh Lenan launched a full-bodied clearance into his face from point-blank range…
🤦 Jimmy Smith 🤦 is caught in the wrong place as a cleared ball strikes him in the face to make a rather comical own-goal for @ASFCofficial against @crawleytown. #ASFC #Crawley.
