Stoke City and Brighton played out a 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday. However, it could have been so different for the Potters, only for Charlie Adam to see his late penalty saved and then fail to score from the rebound after a leaden-footed job towards the ball.

Jose Izquierdo opened the scoring for the Seagulls just after the half-hour mark, before Xherdan Shaqiri leveled the scores in the second-half.

In the last minute of the clash, Stoke had a gilt-edged chance to secure all three points when Jesé was fouled in the box by Dale Stephens.

Adam stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, only to see his well-struck effort superbly saved by Mat Ryan.

However, the ball rebounded back into the path of Adam, only for the sluggish 32-year-old to be beaten to the the ball by a quick-thinking Lewis Dunk, who tackled the sloth-like Adam and cleared the danger.

Not surprisingly, the Brighton players were rather pleased with themselves!

Although Jesé, who had won the penalty in the first place, was rather unimpressed that he didn’t get to take the spot-kick.

As for Adam, so near and yet so far. And so very, very slow.
