MSV Duisburg are to auction the water bottle supped from by goalkeeper Mark Flekken during his infamous cock-up at the weekend in the club’s 2.Bundesliga clash with Ingolstadt.

The Dutch ‘keeper, thinking a goal had been scored at the other end, turned his back on the action to take a swig of water, only for the ball to promptly end up in the back of his net after a quick counter-attack from Ingolstadt

Now, Duisburg and Flekken are using the bizarre incident for good, auctioning the Sinalco bottle with the proceeds going to the ‘Zebrakids’ foundation which helps disadvantaged children in the local area.

Explaining the decision to auction the bottle, Flekken said:

The bottle and I wrote a bit of league history at the weekend.

Now we’re making the story even better. We will auction my bottle for the Zebrakids!

The work the Zebrakids do with so much passion is very, very important.

It is therefore important to me to support this commitment.

Good work Mr. Flekken, and fair dues(burg) to the club for organising it!
