Pacos de Ferreira pulled off a shock 1-0 win over Porto in the Portuguese top flight on Sunday, chiefly by employing every spoiling tactic known to man.
The home side managed to snaffle a goal with 30 minutes played and basically held on for dear life from that point on as Porto became increasingly frustrated and fraught.
The lengths and, more fittingly, depths of Pacos’ industrial-strength time-wasting became abundantly clear in the second half when goalkeeper Mario Felgueiras pulled this hideous piece of play-acting out of the bag…
What is wrong with everybody? Why is this fast becoming the norm mindset? Pies despair (on a weekly basis), we really do.
In mitigation, Felgueiras may have taken extra incentive to rile Porto after their fans’ disgraceful behaviour when Yacine Brahimi stepped up to take a penalty in the 67th minute.
The travelling ultras used a megaphone to distract Felgueiras from behind the goal by yelling insults at him, only for the Pacos stopper to defy them all by saving Brahimi’s naff spot-kick…
All in all, a mixed night for all involved – and none of it particularly good.
(Many thanks to Pies fan Miguel Torres for the tip-off)
