Eintracht Frankfurt pulled off a shock win over Bayern Munich in the final of the DFB-Pokal at the weekend, with the game ending in high drama.
The game also saw Niko Kovac finish his time as Frankfurt boss on high by securing the club’s first major trophy in 30 years, before the Croatian takes charge at none other than Bayern ahead of next season.
Ante Rebic had opened the scoring for Frankfurt, only for Robert Lewandowski to level the scores.
Winger Rebic then put his side 2-1 up on 82 minutes, with the goal standing despite a VAR check for a handball.
That goal set up a tense and dramatic finale which saw Bayern push for another equaliser.
The German giants thought they should have had a penalty in injury time, with Javi Martinez looked to have been fouled by Kevin-Prince Boateng from a corner.
However, the protests were ignored by the officials, and with ‘keeper Sven Ulreich up for the resulting corner, Frankfurt broke immediately.
Substitute Mijat Gacinovic ran clear of the retreating Bayern defenders before rolling the ball into the empty net and sealing a shock win for the Eagles and kickstarting some incredible scenes at the Olympiastadion.
