Feyenoord went joint-second in the Eredivisie on Sunday when a signature freekick from Robin van Persie saw them pip a late 2-1 win over Vitesse.

‘Twas the 88th minute when Van Persie wrapped that gilded left foot around a dead ball to nudge Feyenoord into the lead and still the 35-year-old didn’t manage to make it to the end of the game without getting sent-off.

Indeed, a mere 228 seconds after hitting the back of the net, the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker was (fairly harshly) dismissed for a mistimed tackle on Vitesse defender Max Clark…

Hardly a swivel-eyed meltdown, but also not the most edifying finale for Feyenoord’s elder statesman.

Still, when you’ve noticed there’s only one packet of Munchies left in the vending machine, sometimes you have to take drastic measures to beat everybody back to the changing room.

Maybe a bit harsh, but getting the studs on the ankle like that can break an ankle. And I’m sure Van Persie knows a thing or two about that…

    Great player!
