As they are prone to do, Zenit St Petersburg supporters created a spectacularly intimidating atmosphere ahead of their Europa League clash against Fenerbahce.

Before kick-off, hundreds of fans lined the streets outside the Saint-Petersburg Stadium and greeted the team bus with a fearsome wall of fire…

The pyro extravaganza obviously had some effect, as Zenit went on to secure a 3-1 win over their Turkish visitors, whose rag-tag team now boasts a slew of ex-Premier League detritus.

Indeed, Martin Skrtel, Andre Ayew and Victor Moses all started for Fener, while Islam Slimani came off the bench for the last 10 minutes. Roberto Soldado, Mauricio Isla and Mathieu Valbuena are also on the books, but didn’t make the matchday squad.

Delightfully random.
