I was expecting to see a full Bernabeu weeping from the rafters for Raul’s farewell speech, but no, there’s barely anyone in there! Was it by invite only? I hope so, otherwise it’s a bloody poor turnout for a bona fide Real legend.

Just goes to show you that football clubs and fans are getting too “what have you done for me lately”…

  2. Vish says:

Err… the announcement was made on Sunday evening and the farewell was scheduled for a Monday afternoon. Not too many fans can make it on that kind of notice.

There is going to be a tribute match scheduled, watch the turnout for that.

It shows perfectly that Real Madrid fans are all just a bunch of glory hunters.

  4. John says:

I am not a Madrid fan at all but I have a huge amount of respect for top players that come thru the ranks and stay with their clubs, Scholes, Maldini and Raul for example. It is a disgrace that Madrid arranged such a sorry spectacle for Raul. Especially when you compare it to the hyper fanfare they did for Ronaldo. A (pardon the pun) real shame…

  5. Peter says:

Not quite as bad as how Maldini was treated on his last game for milan against roma. The ultras of Milan were abusing him all throughout that game. Shocking for such a great talisman of the game.
