The F in Feyenoord now stands for Fail…

It’s extremely rare that a team ships double figures in any of Europe’s top leagues, but it happened in Holland on Sunday afternoon:

Dutch leaders PSV Eindhoven inflicted the heaviest ever defeat on former European champions Feyenoord with a 10-0 drubbing at the Philips stadium on Sunday. Brazilian Jonathan Reis hit a hat-trick with Ibrahim Afellay, Ola Toivonen, Jeremain Lens (2), Balazs Dzsudzsak (2) and Orlando Engelaar joining in the rout.

In the visitors’ (slight) defence, they were reduced to 10 men in the first half when midfielder Kelvin Leerdam was sent off.

Feyenoord’s previous worst defeat was an 8-2 loss to Ajax in 1983 – at least they scored a couple of the ten goals on that occasion – this result is simply humiliating for the Rotterdam club.

    This result makes me feel so much better about Wigan’s 9-1 last season, Feyenoord used to be quite good…

    that happened to my team in under 9s. still hurts.

    It looks like it was only 2-0 at half time though…
    Feyenoords manager must have produced one of the worst half time team talks of all time.

    That Jonathan Reis is one to watch. Was sacked last year because he was on coke and didn’t want to go to a rehab clinic. A few weeks later he did and in the summer was welcomed back at PSV then slowly reintroduced to the first team. A couple of weeks ago arrested for drunk driving and now scoring 6 goals in 3 games.

    A difficult lad but certainly one with promising talents.

    @Redskywalker:

    I’m pretty sure the manager said something like: “I want to see goals during the second half”.

    I saw the game, and it was epic. After the break the goals just went in from all angles, the psv players had the time of their lives. And me too, because I support them. But I felt really sorry for Feyenoord, we are talking about the club that won the UEFA cup back in 2002. Great history and fans, and now playing relegation football. They are the Newcastle of Dutch football.

    And if they’re not carefull they’re gonna be the Nottingham Forrest.

    feyenoord is the most popular club here in holland. they won’t go down like notts forrest did. as we speak they’re in talks with some wealthy investors. it’s the only way they’ll ever get rid of their 36m euro debt.

    about the match, in case ur wondering, orlando engelaar(scorer of the 8th goal) didn’t celebrate his goal cuz he went through the feyenoord youth system.
