South American giants humbled by smaller nations
In this weekend’s round of qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, Brazil lost 2-0 to Paraguay, and Argentina were lucky to grab a 1-1 draw at home to Ecuador – only a stoppage-time equaliser spared them the same fate as the Brazilians. Watch the action here:
Paraguay 2-0 Brazil

Paraguay twice hit the woodwork and were rarely troubled by Brazil despite having defender Dario Veron sent off just after half time.
Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz side-footed Paraguay ahead in the 26th minute, and set up the second for Salvador Cabanas. What is going on with Brazil?
Highlights of Argentina vs Ecuador below…

Ecuador 1-1 Argentina

Fantastic opening goal by midfielder Patricio Urrutia. Shame Ecuador couldn’t hold on for a famous win.
Paraguay’s win took them three points clear at the top of the 10-team CONCACAF group with 13 points from five games. Argentina lie second, three points behind, followed by Colombia (9 pts), and struggling Brazil (8).
Brazil and Argentina meet in Belo Horizonte tomorrow in the next round of matches. That should be a fascinating encounter.
