In which former tennis mard-arse John McEnroe pops up at the far post to guide a delightful header home during a 5-a-side game at New York Fest – a celebrity football tournament organised by Umbro and inbound MLS franchise the New York Cosmos…

If that isn’t deserving of a hug from Pies’ favourite Whitecaps fan Steve Nash, then I don’t know what is – oh, and it definitely crossed the line, I saw chalk.

    The goalie really should have done better here.

    Yes, it was an accurate piece of skill from a good soccer player, but the pace on the ball really shouldn’t have caused too much difficulty for a goalie of this guy’s quality.

    All in all, it’s a good sight to see things like this in U.S. soccer, although Red Bulls really would have been a better choice than Cosmos! Lol

    I guess that keeper won’t get his dream draft move to the big leagues. He’ll never get to play soccerball for the Indianapolis Coca-Cola Microsoft BurgerKing StateFarm Budweisers. I joke, of course. I can’t tell who the keeper is, so I might look like a mug. Oh well.

    It’s nice to see Mac getting involved in promoting football in the US, credible names playing the sport will hopefully help with fan base and general popularity.

    Excellent cross, though.

    Are you guys really talking about the quality of the goalkeeping? Really?

  6. wolfusa says:

    get a life tinez. this post is just fluff, fun, you know? i realize soccer professional is not a professional and that we call the game by different names, but he’s not being a jerk like some people. not that being a jerk doesn’t have a time and place, it just doesn’t for a fluff post that isn’t polarizing in the least.

    and besides, brazil owns the game, england just created it. get off your high horse.

    @wolfusa

    Thank you.

    It’s good to see that at least one other person in here has sense and maturity.

    John McEnroe scoring a header? You cannot be serious!

  11. Tinez says:

    I was having a bit of fun, lads, come on. Don’t take yourselves so seriously. Soccerball United FC of Dallas.
