Thought Gareth Bale’s rubber ankle was the worst injury of the weekend? Think again, and spare a thought for Real Salt Lake’s Javier Morales while you’re at it…

I told you it was nasty.
Coming just weeks after Seattle Sounders starlet Steve Zakuani busted his leg in twain, Morales (who is also widely considered to be one of the brightest lights that the MLS currently has to offer) suffered a frature-dislocation of the left ankle – tearing several ligaments in the process, and is expected to be out for the next five months as a result.

mondaini should expect a 10 match ban just like brian mullan. for already being down to ten men, this was such a mind-bogglingly inane foul. it seems all the bright, attack-minded players in mls are victims of horrendous challenges…zakauni, ferreira, and now morales. i thought the league had sent a stern message out with mullan’s suspension but obviously stupidity abounds.
I saw someone call this a foolish tackle, but not malicious, on a football website (maybe Goal.com). I say call it what it is – stupid. Morales beat his defender and the guy was trying to tackle him from behind. Just straight up poor play by that defender. Best wishes for a speedy and successful recovery to Morales.
