After David Villa prodded them ahead in the fourth minute, Barcelona pootled along as per until Chivas midfielder Marco Fabian decided to put on a one-man exhibition of outrageous goalscoring on the hour mark to get the ball rolling – with the staunchly Mexican side going on to squash the Spanish giants 4-1 (Giovanny Casillas and Jose Luis Verduzco adding the other two) in Miami last night.

Feel free to correct us if we’re wrong, but we make that only the second time that a Pep Guardiola side has ever conceded four goals in the same game – the first being Atletico Madrid’s Forlan/Aguero-inspired 4-3 victory at the Vincente Calderon back in 2009.

    Casillas did not score the last two, he scored the third and Jose Luis Verduzco scored the fourth. Also, you should probably post this video so that people can see both of Fabian’s great goals:

    Will also mention that fluke or not, Casillas’ goal was also nice as he made Pinto go in one direction to only give him more time to slot it near the post.

    Good, I don’t like Barcelona very much any more.

    @Red_Devil: Cheers dude!

    You’re probably not going to believe this but I’d actually amended both the scorers and the video in my final article. What appeared on Pies was the sketchy, original ‘Autosave’ version with the wrong video code – seems to be happening quite frequently at the moment for some reason.

    Hopefully it’s all sorted now – damn tech Gremlins!

    Don’t wanna read too much into a friendly but in 2009 mexico’s under 20’s won the gold cup, they recently won the senior gold cup, won the under 17 world cup and are in the under 20 world cup atm, players like Orrantia, pulido and fabian aren’t just indivdual cases of mexican talent theres loads of great youngsters. Mexico for the world cup 2014 is not a ridicolous shout

    You’re welcome Chris, that’s what I love about Pies, people post corrections in comments and the good people actually change them in the article.

    one more thing not to be a bore, and not that anyone cares, but It has come to my attention that the last 2 goals were scored by a largely U-17 and U-23 Chivas squad, Casillas was the lad who scored the 2nd goal in Mexico’s U-17 WC final match vs Uruguay. So Barca having one of the best academies in the world as the media has said so many times should have taken full control as soon as the younger Chivas lads went on the pitch

  15. Varun says:

    Worst defeat of Pep as coach.
    Previous worst was Hercules 0-2 at home, he lost 1-3 4 other times but i consider 0-2 at home worse than 1-3 away.

    Only SAF would take this defeat seriously.
