Hip Hoop Hooray! Scorching Volley Sees Shamrock Rovers Reach First Ever European Tournament (Video)
By Chris Wright
Hearty congrats go out to Shamrock Rovers, who became the first Irish side ever in the history of ever to reach the group stages of any European tournament by beating Partizan Belgrade 2-1 AET in Serbia last night – thus booking themselves a place in the Europa League group stage.
After drawing 1-1 at the Tallaght last week, Partizan went 1-0 up on the night through Vladimir Volkov, but a truly astounding long-range volley from Patrick Sullivan levelled the tie with Stephen O’Donnell’s 113th-minute penalty ensuring a 3-2 aggregate victory for the Dublin-based minnows…
‘Woosh’ indeed. Not a bad way to make history, eh?

Fair play, congratulations must go to those players, well deserved place in history.
Even though I am a Limerick F.C. fan and can’t stand the Dublin teams, I am genuinely delighted for them. It’s a great achievement for Irish football, and I wish them all the best!
What a strike! Well done Shamrock Rovers, great day for Irish Football. Hopefully we’ll get one of our Welsh teams in next year! ;)
