Retro Football: Elvis Costello Joins James Richardson On Football Italia, 1995

By Chris Wright

GOOOOOLACCIO!!!

April 30th 1995: The day that Elvis Costello joined James Richardson to watch Fiorentina vs Juventus on Football Italia and go over the weekend’s results while AC Jimbo, gawd bless ‘im, systematically fails to stave off the giggles as he runs through a series of the worst Costello-related puns ever committed to broadcast…

Let it be known that I would gladly ‘turn’ for either of these men.

You’d ‘turn’ for them two? Fuck me, what would you be like if you met Becks or Brad. Or Mick Hucknell.

  2. Petty Pete says:

Check out some of the names mentioned in that clip from a standard Serie A weekend: Vialli; Ravanelli; Zola; Batistuta; Baggio and Del Piero.

What has happened to that league? Presumably, it suffered the same fate as Channel Four sport.

  3. Murray says:

The best is the “Accidents Will Happen” reference after the mention of an OG.

  4. fafaf says:

    Greatest football show ever.

  5. RyanSSL says:

Di Natale, Del Piero, Di Vaio, Bojan, Lamela, Pato, Zlatan, Totti, Klose, Cisse, Cavani, Lavezzi, Matri, Giovinco, Hernanes, Cassano,Hamsik etc… there is still a TON of talent in Serie A.

  6. bucci says:

    that gives me tingles.

  7. Michael says:

I’d love to see Football Italia back on CH4. It was awesome in the 90′s and be much better than Hollyoaks re-run’s or Time Team.

  8. cj herrera says:

Three of my favorite things colliding in the past. This is making my head hurt. Maybe I should call Dr. Who…
