That looks quite painful there, Cristiano lad.

After the game, Ronaldo (who had to have stitches in the wound after the game if Marcelo is to be believed) was seething with the official in charge, Norway’s Svein Moen, telling the Madrid website:

“I hope we never have this referee again, he was shameful. People talk of fair-play, of protecting good players, but I never get any of that. I don’t understand a thing.

“I’m sad because I hear referees saying they will protect skilful players, but while some are untouchable it seems I can be mauled.

“I think it’s because I’m rich, handsome and a great player. They envy me – there’s no other explanation.”

There’s one other explanation I can think of.

  3. :) says:

i feel sorry for him…and then he says that. very douchy thing to say

  4. gamblino says:

    Fuckin pussy. standard 50-50.

  5. nicko says:

  11. jedvagenij says:

The last comment (about being rich, handsome etc) is because the crowd chanted “Leo Messi” on a couple of ocasions….

  12. Anonymous says:

He may be a dick but jesus fuck I’d rage if that happened to my ankle and I were him.

  13. JP says:

I mean arrogant or not, the man is right…haha

  14. pooky says:

Come now – every mother tells their child that the only reason the other kids tease them/don’t like them is because their “just jealous”. Except that in the case of your ginger hair/truffle shuffle it’s a lie, and in Cristiano’s it’s actually true…

  15. edgar says:

Same exact tackle but with no contact happened to Dani Alves last semifinals from Pepe and Pepe got straight red without even touching him. Here Ronaldo gets full blown contact that causes him to not only scream but bleed that required stitches, but no card was given out. Refs help Barca but put Real Madrid at disadvantages.

  16. edgar says:

@p he plays for Real Madrid, the same team that won club of the century,he plays for the team that literally created the European Cup Championship and the team that has the most trophies in Spain.

  17. Red_Devil says:

Unlike any Barcelona player, Ronaldo actually had a reason for going down.

  18. Raul says:

    He is right

  19. Hugh Jass says:

Oh no, they’re all trying to sabotage his promising post football career as an ankle model. Man up Ronnie.

  20. Ralf says:

I know exactly how he feels. I’m poor, short, fat & can’t kick a ball to save my life…but I have an excellent smile. Everyone who sees it is so envious that they try to wipe it off my face.

  21. Anonymous says:

The problem is not Cristiano it’s the ref. I’m sure if Messi got tackled the same about of times he did it would be the exact same story. The only difference is Cristiano is a superstar and a global figure and he knows it. Players like himself need to be protected just like Dani Alves was protected from Pepe.

  22. Jonny Tates says:

@ hugh jass I would think getting a broken ankle would prevent him from playing games and this may be why he kind of doesn’t like to receive studs up tackles to his legs. But I’m sure that if somebody came up to you and broke your leg you would definitely just walk it off like a man right?

  23. p says:

@edgar the same Real Madrid that is the villain of la liga and can’t buy a call when they play the Infallible Angels of Football… if he wants fair treatment he should leave Spain or join Barca theatre group, otherwise he shouldn’t complain about playing for a hated club.

  24. noo says:

Why should “talented players” be protected ? Everyone should and that’s it.

    Video refeering people…

    Still, what a douche.

  25. Montesquieu says:

    He bleeds purple?

  26. dc says:

@edgar + p: Real Madrid are the villain of La Liga because they spent the whole of the 20th century getting extra “protection” from referees, local gov’t, national gov’t, etc. Now not too much can be done about the gov’t corruption that still supports Real Madrid, but as far as I’m concerned, referees fucking over Madrid as often as possible is beautifully sublime karmic retribution.

  27. Rusaki says:

    @dc
Lol. Where do you take that ‘information’ from? I’m spanish and that’s pure bullshit the only people who ever use that lame ass lies are Barcelona fans, these morons like to mix sport with politics it’s so annoyingly transparent and desperate…everyone with a brain can see that Barcelona gets special treatment in the spanish Liga at least and somehow it’s a trend now to hate on Christiano Ronaldo. I think he is right about people and their envy!

  28. Ruff says:

I’m a fan of Ronaldo, but in the heat of the moment he says things which only come back to bite him in the a##… this is one of those cases. Great player who has become the whipping boy of the day, month, year, forever. And people are envious… no doubt about it. But he must eventually learn to be a little more humble…hopefully he will.
