West Ham United 3-1 Southampton – Premier League – 22nd February
Sam Allardyce’s West Ham continued their resurgence with a fine win against Southampton at Upton Park. Saints’ defender Maya Yoshida had given the visitors an early lead, but despite their usual lion’s share of possession, Southampton failed to test Hammers’ keeper Adrian too many times after the goal. Instead, Matt Jarvis and Carlton Cole gave the Hammers a 2-1 lead before half-time, with the impressive Kevin Nolan netting a third in the second period.
West Ham go 10th, seven points clear of danger and just two places (albeit eight points) behind Southampton.
