Despite hemorrhaging a whole load of star players this summer, Southampton have still managed to make an impressive start to the new season, with this victory at Upton Park well-deserved.

The home side, who unveiled new signing Alex Song before the kick-off, took the lead when Mark Noble’s long-range effort was deflected in, However, Morgan Schneiderlin bagged the first of his brace on the stroke of half-time.

In the second period, the Saints once again were the better side with West Ham struggling to find a cutting edge. Schneiderlin’s second then came on 68 minutes before Graziano Pelle sealed the deal late on.

While Ronald Koeman will be delighted his side’s win, Sam Allardyce will be concerned by his side’s poor show, particularly after their vibrant victory last week against Crystal Palace.
