West Ham have confirmed that they have launched an investigation into an unsavoury incident that occurred during the second half of Tuesday’s home win over West Brom at the Olympic Stadium.

After being substituted off in the 64th minute, Livermore was seen angrily confronting members of the crowd before finally being led away by a member of the Baggies coaching staff.

It’s now been alleged that a Hammers fan goaded Livermore with taunts about his newborn baby son, who died in 2014.

If true, it’s utterly and irredeemably appalling. A life ban must surely be in the offing should the guilty party be identified.

How could a fellow human being even privately fathom stooping to such repulsive and cowardly levels, let alone do it loudly and proudly in a public forum?

It’s truly beyond our comprehension.
