I have not seen any reference to a card in the news. Was there any?
I do not think the intent was to break the leg of the player but in these type of challenges something normally gives and it is rarely the grass.
I am often impressed by the amount of unpunished recklesness that goes on in british football. Stiff leg, cleats up tackles are usual and as long as there is some perception that the player is attempting on playing the ball the tackles go unpunished.
However, this tackle does not fall in that category. The player decided to have a go at Dyer’s leg and I think there was some sort of “malicious recklesness” or whatever you would want to call it that would deserve some pretty harsh punishment.
Malice aforethought, malicious intent?
