unsworth.jpgBig-boned Wigan defender David Unsworth has been released from his contract. The 33-year-old’s penalty against Sheffield United last weekend kept Wigan in the Premiership, but he has been deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Chris Hutchings.
He said: “Unsy’s goal against Sheffield United will live long in the memory and its significance can never be underestimated.” Perhaps Unsworth would prefer that on his Wigan epitaph rather than Graham Taylor’s analysis: “He might be overweight, he might be slow, but he knows how to take penalties.” I’m sure he will fill a hole in a Championship
Wigan have also shown the door to 37-year-old skipper Arjan de Zeeuw.
