England’s 2010 World Cup draw: England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia

“Wahay!”

So, this is what F-Cap’s plucky men lads next summer:

GROUP C: ENGLAND, USA, ALGERIA, SLOVENIA

England’s order of play: USA (Sat 12 June, Rustenburg), Algeria (Fri 18 June, Cape Town), Slovenia (23 June, Port Elizabeth)

What do you make of the draw? From an English perspective, I think it’s terrific – really about as good as we could have hoped for. I was rather concerned when USA were drawn as our first opponents – the toughest team in the easiest pot – but Algeria and Slovenia are undoubtedly two of the weakest teams in the other two pots.

England should really win this group, with USA in second. Then the real fun starts, with England – if they qualify – having to play the winners/second-placed team of Group D (D for Death), which contains Germany, Australia, Ghana and Serbia. Dangerous opponents all.

That dress is way too long, btw.

Pretty even draw after all the hoop-la, really. Group G is likely next year’s ‘Group of Death’ though. Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast. Poor North Korea.

    Great draw for England.

  2. A-mac says:

    Great draw for England!!

  3. Mac says:

The draw had a Eurovision song contest feel to it. fucking horrible. saved only by the fact it was hosted by the stunning Charlize Theron.

Good draw for England overall, talk about the group of death all you like but I’m more interested in watching Group E with the Dutch, Japan, Cameroon & Denmark.

  4. Amin says:

I am from Algeria and I think really that we can make serious problems to England!!! and USA
    thanks;)

  5. kaya says:

    I thought Charlize was annoying.
I know the official line from England will be that “this is not an easy group” but I hope England live up to my expecations and far understimate us.

  6. Chringle says:

@Kaya: She obviously had no interest in what was happening – although she wasn’t half as annoying as the draw itself. Just draw 32 balls from a hat and spare us all the Crystal Maze rubbish.

  7. chris says:

It was a good draw for the U.S. I think we have a good chance against England. We just gotta watch out for rooney and make them defend with a hopefully fast counter attacking squad.Prediction England and U.S. qualify from group stage.

  8. Dan says:

Group C: easiest World Cup group ever?

  9. toidi4ever says:

anybody knows what group my country ukraine is in?

and why do korea gets two spots?????

  10. Chringle says:

Bad news I’m afraid Toidi. Ukraine didn’t make it to 2010, they lost to Greece 1-0 on aggregate in the play-offs. And Korea have two teams as the country is split into North [Peoples Democratic Republic Of...] Korea and South Korea.

  11. Baz says:

mac ur an idiot. Charlize Theron was what was wrong with that draw ceremony

  12. spectator says:

group D is terrible, Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea. congratulations England, you’ll make the quarters at least.

i’m Australian and we are FUCKED! i love how you described us as dangerous opponents, given we don’t have a striker and only some fairly old and mediocre midfielders. and of course one of Kewell’s legs will fall off 5 minutes before match one against freaking GERMANY.

oh and toidi4ever, Ukraine didn’t make it. they lost to Greece in playoffs. sorry.

  13. spectator says:

and additionally, Korea gets two spots because there are two Koreas and they both made it.

  14. Mac says:

RE: Baz. i never once said her presenting was what made the draw as it was shocking i simply said she is stunning ,read what i wrote properly before opening your mouth son.

  15. Joe says:

Hmmm… England up against two left wingers who (have) play(ed) for my beloved Fulham. I wonder who will be more of a threat: Deuce Dempsey or Hamuer Boulshitza… difficult, difficult…

  16. Petross says:

Greece will shock the World AGAIN !!!

GREECE WILL WIN The 2010 World Cup !!!

  17. little lord fauntleroy says:

who is holding down the fort around here?

  18. rosa says:

well, English and Americans have never heard about a country called Algeria, just keep on ignoring our team and underestimating them, it’s better, we will see in june

  19. kahrabiste says:

    camon algeria slowly but surely

  20. kahrabiste says:

    one . two .three . viva l`algerie
algeria will take every match as the final match we will respect every team ..we will do our best and we will get out there and play some nice footy
I just hope that the referees will be honest that`s all
we do not fear any team and to us there are all respectable . we will play with fair-play and we will hit the target
every team has 11 players in the field so to start with everything is the same level so far ..
camon the green boys make history
