Snapshot: Robin Van Persie’s Ungainly Crash Landing After Spain Goal Inspires New Social Media Craze Of ‘#Persieing’

By Chris Wright

He may well have just scored a stone-cold corker of a diving header against Spain, but Robin van Persie’s less than graceful landing after nodding over Iker Casillas has spawned the latest and greatest internet pose-based meme since “owling” – fittingly referred to by scholars as “#Persieing”…

As far as we can tell, Persieing basically involves getting down on the ground, splaying your arms out behind you and mashing your face into the turf.

Of course, the English equivalent is “Rooneying” – which involves furrowing your brow and photographing yourself hoofing cats aimlessly over your garden fence.
