Spot on, especially the bit about building from the back. Glen Johnson was woeful, as was Jagielka. Neither deserved those two caps. England bought into the whole Liverpool way of playing, but i guess they forgot that that experiment failed as well.

    Troll on, Roger…Troll on.

  3. Jarren says:

Was there a reason why Waddle never took up management?

He talks the talk, surely his experience & knowledge would command respect from players.

  4. Roger says:

    Roger,
    Liverpool failed?
Bloody hell you’ve got high standards haven’t you?

  5. Kingsland101 says:

Why take the players we took when they don’t get in the first team? Lallana was ‘the first name on the team sheet’ 3 weeks ago. What happened? We just play the same predictable team every time with maybe 1 exception.

even though england have a lot of liverpool players coming off a successful season, to emulate that success they’re missing that special ingredient, suarez. he did what he’s used to doing, scoring. and waddle’s right, it’s always the foreign players who star in our premier league. rooney and sturridge were our leading scorers in the EPL this year, and sure they each got themselves a goal but we need a team that works together and wants to play for something. costa rica wanted it and gave it their all and look where that got them

Although results are ultimately what matter and England’s have been poor I think that in realistic terms this hasn’t been an awful tournament for them. Let’s be honest, they’ve hardly sent a world beating side. That being said they have managd d to play some fairly attractive football and I think the seeds have been planted for a bit of a resurgence. Euro 16 is looking interesting. The squad was weak as water at the back though. It’s hard to argue that but since people have been talking about it for months All of the shock and outrage now seems a bit much…

i love the world cup so am not to worried when England go out.

That said i think the reason we are always so rubbish (apart from glen Johnson who has never been able to defend)is that all our English players stay in England. look at every other country in the world (accept Russia at the moment) and they send out there players to other leagues where they experience different football. id like to see lalana at Valencia, Barkley at Milan and sterling at ajax.

Stop moaning about the premiership which we all enjoy do what every other country does and encourage players to go play in Europe.

You’re failing because you have no advanced national curriculum and few coaches who have a UEFA Pro licence developing your youngsters.

You need to play a 4-3-3 system in all your youth teams and mandate it across the nation. Too many English clubs at all levels are allowed to play such dirt football.

As u4486662 said: You’re not failing at the WC because you lack the players, but the tactics.
    Coming from a German.
