The president of the Argentinian football federation has taken his life in his hands by calling Diego Maradona a “jinx” following Argentina’s dramatic late win over Iran in Belo Horizonte yesterday.
Having watched the majority of the game with his family, Maradona left the Estadio Mineirao before the final whistle – just shortly before Lionel Messi popped up to score the 91st-minute winner.
After the game, AFA president Julio Grondona reportedly passed a comment in front of several journalists, declaring: “The jinx left the stadium and we won,” or words to that effect.
Maradona was then informed of Grondona’s comment and gave his official response during a televised interview…
Loud and clear.
