“On the flight deck today, Mr Vincent Vega”

The FA has agreed a deal in principle with British Airways for actor John Travolta to fly the England football squad out to South Africa this summer.

Travolta is a qualified pilot who even has a taxiway outside his Florida estate, leading to a local airport’s runway – and he recently flew his own Boeing jet to stricken Haiti to help out after earthquakes shook the island. What a guy!

JT has been an ambassador for Australian airline Qantas for years (he used to be a registered Qantas pilot), but that deal expired last year, prompting BA -which is obviously keen to mend its broken public image with any PR that doesn’t involve the words “Willie Walsh” and “Unite” – to approach the star. If the deal is struck, Travolta and co-pilot would take control of one of BA’s Boeing 777-200s.

It’s not known what publicity-shy Fabio Capello makes of this, but I doubt he really cares who pilots England to the World Cup, as long as Wayne Rooney is on the plane.
