The first batch of tickets for the 2018 World Cup in Russia have gone on sale today and, guess what, they’re not exactly what you might call affordable.

From Thursday, fans will be able to submit an application to purchase tickets for the tournament – the cheapest being a bog standard ‘category 3’ ticket for group stage at matches priced at £79 matches and the most expensive being a frankly extortionate ‘category 1’ ticket for the final… £829.

There are discounts available if you happen to be a Russian resident, who can attend a group stage matches for as little as £17 and the final for just £92 – a full £251 cheaper than the least expensive category 3 (i.e. non-Russian resident) admission…

For the record, the top-end £829 final ticket represents a £151 price hike from the equivalent ticket at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

What with the spiralling costs and the ever-present threat of being mulched by Russian hooligans at every turn, Pies are probably going to pass on making the trip this time round.
