Egypt may be heading out of the World Cup regardless of their result against Saudi Arabia, but at least their veteran goalkeeper was afforded a special moment in the Pharaoh’s final Group A game.

Five minutes before the break, the Saudi’s were awarded a fairly soft penalty when Yasser Al-Shahrami’s cross plinked off the arm of Egyptian defender Fathy.

Fahad Al-Muwallad then placed the ball on the spot, only to be denied by a 45-year-old ‘keeper who had just become the oldest man ever to play at a World Cup

Misty-eyed narrative aside, that was one hell of a save. Fahad fair thumped that spot-kick and Al-Hadary was on it in a nanosecond.

He may be older than time itself* (*in football terms), but his reflexes and reading are obviously still sharp enough to cut it.

What a fantastic save! For some age is just a number on a piece of paper. Hats off to goalkeeper Essam Al-Hadary.
