UEFA president Michel Platini was taken to hospital tonight after fainting in a Johannesburg restaurant.
Platini, 55, was taken to hospital for tests as a precaution but his adviser William Gaillard said he had been told “not to worry”.
There had initially been reports that Platini had suffered a heart attack but Gaillard insisted that was not the case.
“He’s fine,” Gaillard said. “He’s conscious and a heart attack has been ruled out.
“He has had a bit of a fever recently because he’s got a cold and hadn’t eaten anything all day.”
Platini had reportedly been dining with former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier and former Scotland boss Andy Roxburgh.
I gotta say, for a man who only retired from professional sport 23 years ago, Platini sure has aged quickly. Too much time on football’s gravy train, Michel?
