Arsenal 1-2 Wigan Athletic – Premier League – 16th April 2012

After beating league-leaders Manchester United last week, Roberto Martinez’s men slayed another Premier League giant on Monday night, courtesy of a superb 2-1 away win at the Emirates.

After just eight minutes, Wigan were 2-0 up, courtesy of a 49-second two-goal salvo from Franco Di Santo and Jordi Gomez. Despite a goal from Thomas Vermaelen, the shell-shocked Gunners were utterly dismal overall and deserved nothing from the game. Victor Moses tormented the Arsenal backline time and time again while the likes of Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey (on for the injured Mikel Arteta early on) failed to impress.

The result sees the Latics climb five points clear of the relegation zone, while the Gunners remain five points clear of fourth-placed Spurs, having now played a game more

As much as it sucks to be an Arsenal fan after that appauling performance, how frustrating must it be for Wigan fans. Claimed some big scalps in the past few weeks, yet still not entirely safe from the drop…could be an ‘if only’ season for them.

victories against liverpool, united AND arsenal? these boys need to stay in the prem!

  3. Jarren says:

After turning over Liverpool, Man Utd & Arsenal I expect them to get at least another 4 points against Fulham and Newcastle.

The form they’re in, I pray for Blackburn & Wolves (who they play last two games).

A team that can go to the Emirates and own Arsenal is surely going to devour poor Wolves at home.

Fair play to Wigan. I had written them off before the new year. Now, failing a complete collapse, they could finish well up into the safety zone.

Proves how much Arsenal miss Arteta when he’s not there. The midfield was non existent

  5. Alex says:

One team had much more to play for and it really showed. Easily one of the more frustrating matches this season as there was nothing in it from the Gunners.

  6. Mr. Sparkle says:

Good to see Arsenal flounder as always.

Has Wenger made a pact with the devil to stay at the club no matter what?
