On loan at Sao Paulo from Arsenal, Denilson scored an absolute screamer, his first for the club, in their 3-0 win over Palmeiras at the weekend – humping the ball in off the stanchion from 40 yards out…

Denilson later thanked his mother, who passed away in 1998, for her assistance:

“She and God helped me a lot, especially with that shot. She always dreamt of me scoring for Sao Paulo. There was nothing fortunate about that shot. I knew it would go in.

“There was something in the way the ball went in. I think my mother put her hand on the ball and guided it as well.”

Handball then. Chalk if off immediately.

Anyone remember him doing anything remotely similar for Arsenal?

With all respect to Denilson, the expression on his face during the flight of the ball is not the expression of man certain the ball is going in.

Bet his mum dreamt of him doing it with STI embezzled across his chest too, sponsorship FAIL.

He scored a worldy against Everton in the 1-6 at Goodison a few years back.

That said, my nan could have waltzed through our defence that day…

Sorry but he just attempted to hit it. That slice is not intended!

  6. Captain Obvious says:

At the risk of sounding insensitive, I wish his mother dreamed of him doing more than convert oxygen to carbon dioxide whilst in north London…

With god on his side it’s a wonder the man was shipped away on loan! Right, right, the divine plan and all that other what-have-you.

I dont remember him ever actually playing the ball forwards during his time at Arsenal

  9. To Hull and Back says:

As previously mentioned, his goal at Everton was pretty good, and I’m not sure if it was a free-kick or shot but he had a good goal against Hull once upon a while. This 40 yarder is impressive, hopefully we can get a buck or two from the YouTube scouts and end our time with this crybaby.
