Arsenal 2-0 Hull City – FA Cup 3rd Round – 4th January 2015

Steve Bruce’s Hull producing a decent display at the Emirates on Sunday, but ultimately it was Arsenal who would secure the win which sees them move into the 4th Round of the FA Cup.

The Tigers passed the ball around well but it was the Gunners who would take the lead, with captain Per Mertesacker heading home from a corner on 20 minutes. With Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla both in superb form, the hosts went close again before the break as Hull struggled to find a cutting edge of their own.

In the second-period, the Tigers again looked decent in possession but on 82 minutes, Sanchez got the goal his all-action display richly deserved. Picking up the ball on the edge of the ball, the Chilean turned his defender before firing into the corner of Steve Harper’s goal and that was that.

So the holders start their campaign with a good, if hard-fought win. While Arsene Wenger will also be pleased to have seen Theo Walcott, albeit a bit rusty, last 75 minutes.
