The utter stupidity and sheer ignorance of some football fans really is mind-blowing at times. Take this apparent Arsenal fans’ band ‘The Away Boyz’ who serenaded a whole load of Gooners with a vile homophobic ditty aimed at ex-Gunners Ashley Cole, a player who left the club eons ago…

This pathetic ‘Chelsea Batty Boy’ nonsense occurred at the Green Man pub near Wembley ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final with Reading and the fact it’s such a well-rehearsed show makes it even worse.

Arsenal have been one of the most progressive clubs in terms of dealing with homophobia in the game, with the club’s LGBT supporter’s group the Gay Gooners doing a whole load of great work. But after all that, you get this. Embarrassing and reprehensible. Let’s hope the appropriate authorities take action.

Take action? Grow up mate will ya. A few football fans on the drink having a bit of banter at the expense of a horrible little cu*t. I suppose you would lock em up and throw away the key. Its toss pots like you who are embarrassing themselves.

  2. Jarren says:

    Chavvy scum.

  3. Jakob says:

They’ve always acted like they’re a classy folk, but they ain’t got jack.

  4. squiggle says:

Acting like a buffoon is grown up? Your boorish, boozy message is grown up? Jesus wept.

  5. Ben says:

Telling people to grow up because they don’t find homophobic chants funny is pretty ironic, isn’t it.

  6. Mr. X says:

Nothing wrong with that song. It is just banter, there is no general malice behind it and it is only aimed at one person not at people as a whole in a way that is intended to not necessarily be taken at face value.

  7. squiggle says:

It’s moronic. They may think they mean no general malice but some of those who throw bananas at black players they dislike would argue the same. It’s using bigotry to wound. That’s it.

Hermeneutics won’t help you here; face value is all there is.

  8. Mark says:

You’d think they’d killed a policeman by the way you’re going on, stop chocking the fun out of the game, ‘cos that’s what it is – fun.
Footballs the working mans game and working men like a laugh and taking the micky, take your Guardian and go and watch the late review or something equally wank.

  9. squiggle says:

Let’s sing about how working men are bigots who are thick as pigshit. Because that’s how you’re describing them. C’mon, it’ll just be for a laugh.

I loathe the Guardian, by the way. A left wing Fox News.

  10. Anonymous says:

Ashley Cole is a Greedy little cunt. Who gives a fuck about some song about him being a faggot.

  11. Tim Rice says:

I think the song is funny

  12. mandygirl78 says:

As a gay Gooner, I find them embarrassing and insulting. I don’t want to have any association with them. They’re no better than those Chelsea fans who hurled racial insults at the black man in Paris.
