A year on from marrying his wife Colleen, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey emitted a lovely-dovey anniversary Tweet this afternoon which included a photo of the pair on their honeymoon and the caption “One year today”.

Alas, the Welshman chose to write his message to his Welsh wife in Welsh, which caused a fair amount of consternation among his followers, who immediately feared the worst…

It all went downhill from there too, with other fans haranguing the Welshman for writing in his native Welsh tongue and even going so far as to denounce the language as “ugly” and “gibberish”.

This planet.

We ask you, how could a language wherein the word for microwave is ‘popty ping‘ possibly be described as ugly?

As the renowned historian who hailed from England once said:

“Wales had its own language and culture when the English were eating bark in th bogs of Bavaria.”

“popty ping” … wow, you learn something new everyday.

Does anyone seriously think that this wasn’t just a bit of banter from a few bored tweeters?

I can see the headlines… The Welsh are revolting! Arsenal supporters are idiots! It’s an insult to ALL Welsh people! Ramsey to leave Arsenal after bitter insult to his wife!

    *Grabs popcorn*

This is going to be priceless stupidity.

Why would you listen to a historian? History is the most biased humanity there is.
Genetically, the Welsh, are the same as most of North Western Europe. Including the English, the Irish and the Scots. There was no Germanic invasion. Whilst there were Angle and Jutes here, there were likely as many Scandinavians, Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, Basques, Franks, Gauls, etc. Indeed, there were no united Celtic people, or even Welsh people, as Wales is a modern socio-political term. Aside from a similarity in La Téne art styles, there were a myriad of different distinct socio-political groups even with the comparatively small geographical of Wales. What has developed into Welsh culture since then, is diluted by numerous technological and cultural spheres.

Pies should know better than to incite Anglophobia/Cymrophobia

Yeah, get out more, you hermit. Everyone knows showing signs of intelligence and reason is a sign of a failing social life and a lack of vitamin D…

popty ping. ok. It’s all relative. English is quite ugly from another perspective.
