In Santiago on Satruday night, Alexis Sanchez became the second player to win a major tournament courtesy of a Panenka penalty after, er, Antonin Panenka. And in doing so secured his country their first-ever Copa America title.
After a tight and tense final between the hosts and Argentina, which saw Chile edge proceedings and Gonzalo Higuain miss a good chance late on, the 2015 tournament went to penalties.
Higuain ballooned his effort over the bar before team-mate Ever Banega saw his weak spot-kick saved by Barcelona glovesman Claudio Bravo. With the shoot-out score at 3-1 to Chile, Arsenal’s Sanchez stepped up to dink home a magnificently cool winning spot-kick. Nicely done!
