Arsenal: Wenger Wants A School For Strikers Who Can Fight As Benzema Gets The Green Light

Arsenal will spend the season building a dangerous striker. Speaking before Arsenal’s opening match of the season against West Ham United (and you can see how well that went here), Arsène Wenger talked strikers.

You always wanted perfect pitches, I’m involved in that. We develop only midfielders now, because all the education is about passing on the ground, on perfect pitches. We produce plenty of good, technical midfielders but maybe we have to create schools for centre-forwards. When I arrived in England, at every single club there was a guy who before the game you’d say, ‘Be careful, he’s good in the air. Be careful because he’s aggressive’.

Before, you had to kick the ball from the back to the front and go behind and fight with the centre-back to win the ball and have a chance to retain it. Somewhere, the conditions have changed and we have not adapted in our education. We just develop players who are good passers of the ball.

Are Arsenal going to buy Karim Benzema? Real Madrid are a mere £350m in debt. If the Spaniards buy David De Gea from Manchester United, selling Benzema could become a necessity.

The Mail says “Arsene Wenger has been given the all clear to break Arsenal’s transfer record to land Karim Benzema.”  The paper adds that the Gunners will offer Benzema in excess of  Mesut Ozil’s £150,000-per-week wages to land their No 1 target. But if the Gunners really want a fighter who can head the ball, why didn’t they buy Benteke?

  1. Always a Gunner ready to die as a Gunner

Since Arsenal signed Cech I’ve felt that they could mount a proper title challenge. Surely signing Benzema would make them favourites as neither Man City or Chelsea have strengthened well enough and Man UK still look lacklustre.
Only Arsenal have added real quality to their starting players while the rest of the top 6 look a bit weaker if anything.
Being a supporter of Arsenals closest neighbours, it pains me to say it but if I were a betting man (and I could live with the personal shame of betting on our rivals) I would put my money on Arsenal winning the league IF they sign Benzema……
Why would Real Madrid sell him though?
Why would Benzema take a pay cut to play for Arsenal?
Weirder things have happened but it doesn’t make sense to me.

arsenal will never again win the league while wenger is there, they need different motivation in the dressing room and tactics on the training ground. they have the players but not the mentality to win the english premier league

“Madrid are a mere £350m in debt”. Do me a favour. We’re talking about the club who are funded by the National Bank of Spain for crying out loud.

Dude stop it, Madrid have loads of loans out/outstanding. First of there is no National bank of Spain…nor are they funded by them. In 2009 the Spanish savings bank Caja Madrid admitted that it has agreed to give Real Madrid a €76m (£64m) loan to be secured on two unnamed sources of collateral. Madrid are also understood to have a similar deal in place with Banco Santander.

Real have spent in excess of €160m to bring Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United and Kaka from Milan

More recently Madrid still owe Tottenham for Bale having used a complex five-bank financial transaction to complete his signing.
Spurs have received the first payment understood to be around £17m. But the remaining sum is to be paid in three instalments over three years.
Spurs have three promissory notes from Madrid – IOUs that specify date and sum of repayment. And these can be cashed in September 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The promissory notes – guaranteed by four banks where Madrid have accounts – Santander, BBVA, Popular and Sabadell – were reason enough for Perez to claim he had not put Madrid in debt with Bale’s purchase.

Spurs are still money owed by Madrid and should still count as debt.
Madrid also spent around £68m in the summer on Asier Illaramendi, Isco and Dani Carvajal. They sold Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli and, very much against fans’ wishes Ozil to Arsenal. Their plans to remodel the Bernabeu are the subject of an EU investigation.

Long story short, Madrid want Reus, but can not buy him until they cash-in on Benzema.

Benzema will be 28 this year and Madrid are over valuing him…
