Arsenal produced yet another appallingly flaccid performance at Selhurst Park on Monday night, with hosts Crystal Palace running out deserved 3-0 winners.

The Gunners were hoping to build on their 3-0 midweek win against West Ham, but instead were no match for an energetic and vibrant Palace, with star men Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez disappointing throughout.

Ex-Tottenham winger Andros Townsend opened the scoring from close-range for the Eagles on 17 minutes, after the visitors’ backline was breached far too easily.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession, Arsenal toiled and struggled to create much in the game.

Just after the hour-mark, Yohan Cabaye doubled the hosts’ advantage, courtesy of a superb first-time looping finish.

Five minutes later, it was game set and match for Sam Allardyce’s side after Townsend went down far too easily under a needless challenge from Arsenal ‘keeper Emiliano Martinez.

The impressive Luka Milivojevic converted the resulting spot-kick to send the home fans wild.

A lacklustre Arsenal continued to dominant possession but failed to direct a single shot on target in the whole of the second half as the home fans sang “Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay”.

A section of the travelling support, on the other hand, belted out “Arsene Wenger, we want you to go” and “You’re not fit to wear the shirt.

Utterly embarrassing, yet perfectly understandable scenes.

The result sees Palace move a healthy six points clear of the drop-zone as Allardyce once again looks like dodging relegation.

As for Arsenal, they have now lost four away league games in a row for the first under Wenger, and find themselves seven points off the top four.

They’ve also conceded more goals than Middlesbrough this season, leaking three goals or more in four consecutive away matches for the first time since 1929.

As is, Arsenal could be mathematically unable to overcome Spurs on points as early as April 26th, so go ahead and scratch those St. Totteringham’s Day celebrations you had planned.

Is making a change at the very top now the Gunners’ only chance of salvaging a top four place this season?

Top 4 is gone, let’s be real. The problem is Wenger is unable to change his ways, and therefore cannot fix what’s broken at Arsenal.

Arsenal is a comedy, the players, even the way the supporters protest, everything. You just can’t take them seriously. I think if you give them a 20 point lead at the beginning of the season they would still manage to lose the title. There’s two teams that, when the season starts, I know they won’t win anything: Arsenal and Liverpool.
And that’s not because I’m a Man United fan, I actually dislike Chelsea and City much more than Arsenal or Liverpool. I dislike them because I know they can win anything and when they lose – unlike Arsenal – they do what it takes to make sure they can win in the next year. I mean, if Arsenal is doing well, we can buy van Persie from them. Chelsea can buy Ashley Cole from them. City can take Sanchez. Would United or City sell one the best players to a rival? No way. They lose a title, they do something to try to win the next one. They bring experience, personalities. Arsenal bring young, swiss born children and think they can compete against Conte or Mourinho or Ferguson. They just make the same mistake every year and it’s been like this since they lost Vieira, Bergkamp, Henry, Campbell and choose to replace them all with kids. I have nothing against young players, I think they should definitely play if they’re good enough but in a huge club like Arsenal and Liverpool they must have a Cantona or a Xavi or a Vieira or a Lampard alogside them to show them where they are and how much they must give for the shirt they’re wearing. Today, they look around and see Ozil, Walcott, Giroud…. Lallana, Sturridge and Milner at Liverpool. Come one.

I think Wenger should go IF he’s the guy choosing to buy a teenager from Malta instead of trying to get Ibrahimovic (a winner) for free or to splash the cash in someone like, I don’t know, Godin (a leader) or Kante or any great player with some balls. If that’s the case he’s living in wonderland.

And I’m sure Wenger must stay IF the owners are telling him to buy these kids because they can’t afford the big names. If that is the case Wenger is a genius to get top four every year and must stay at Arsenal forever because with the current team/policy and another manager, you’ll fight with Southampton in midtable every year.

@Bruno: Couldn’t agree with you more on the Arsenal situation!
Walcott epitomises Arsenal – Inconsistent talent which doesn’t quite live up to potential (à la Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Coquelin and many more from yesteryear). good players with flashes of greatness….

But good players don’t win you leagues & trophies.
