Thomas Lemar gave Arsenal a hint of what they almost got their hands on on Thursday night.

After apparently turning down a £90m move to the Emirates, the Monaco midfielder then went and bagged a fine brace for France in their World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands.

Les Bleus were already a goal up, after Antoine Griezmann was set up by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, when Lemar latched on to a clearance and thumped home a first-time belter from the edge of the box…

Soon after, on 88 minutes, Lemar made it 3-0, prodding home from close-range and robbing Gunner Alexandre Lacazette of a goal in the process!

Talk about rubbing salt in the wounds of Arsenal fans the world over. Surely they’ve suffered enough now?

PSG new-boy Kylian Mbappe would net a fourth for the French in a thoroughly convincing battering of the Netherlands.

While the future of French football looks rosy, the Dutch continue to stall in a sea of mediocrity.

As for Arsenal, the failure to land Lemar means that Alexis Sanchez will miss out on his prefered move to Man City. One wonders just how motivated the Chilean will be for the coming months with the Gunners.
