Alexis Sanchez may have been en route to Manchester, but on Saturday, Arsenal produced a vintage display of slick attacking football which proved too much for Crystal Palace.

Starting with Nacho Monreal at left-back and Mohamed Elneny in a holding mdifield role, Arsenal’s starting 11 looked far more balanced than in recent games.

The Gunners took the lead after just six minutes, with Monreal heading home from close-range.

The Spaniard would then set up Alex Iwobi just four minutes later, as the hosts stunned Roy Hodgson’s side.

Just three minutes later it was 3-0, with Laurent Koscielny netting after a corner, with Monreal yet again the provider.

After racking up an impressive three goal involvements, Monreal would be forced off with an injury on 34 minutes. However, Arsenal would continue to push for another goal.

That fourth and best goal of the game would come on 22 minutes, with Alexandre Lacazette ending his goal-drought after a superb team move which had the outstanding Mesut Ozil pulling the strings.

After the break, Luka Milivojević got one back for the Eagles, via a deft volley after a corner.

However, the Gunners would ultimately run out deserved 4-1 winners after an effervescent display which bodes well for the their Sanchez-free future. It’s amazing what a proper defensive midfielder and a left-back playing as a left-back can do!
