Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere was arrested in the early hours of Sunday following a “fracas”.

A statement issued by the Wasserman Media Group on behalf of the 18-year-old claimed Wilshere was “unlikely” to face charges.

The statement read: “Jack Wilshere was arrested by police in the early hours following a fracas but was released on bail later. The police have made it very clear that he is an important witness to the incident and played the role of peacemaker and is unlikely to face any charges as a result. Jack has made it very clear he will co-operate fully with the police investigation.”

Welcome to Team England, Jack – you are ready to share a dressing room with men like John Terry and Ashley Cole. If that Jackass Capello picks you again.

    Get your facts straight.

He was in the middle of a fracas and is helping police with enquiries.
Police have made it clear that Jack is an important witness to the incident and played role of peacemaker’

    Jesus. This press is pathetic.

And in what way did I get the facts wrong, internet tough guy? Your comment exactly replicates what the post said. We’re on the same page, so relax and take some deep breaths. You’ll live longer.

You say: “He was in the middle of a fracas and is helping police with enquiries.”

I say: “Wilshere was arrested in the early hours of Sunday following a fracas.” (Which is what Wilshere’s people said happened).

I also printed the bit about him being a peacemaker. There’s no anti-Wilshere agenda here, as much as you seem to see one.

ollie, I dont know how you deal with all the idiots who comment on here, I feel for you

  4. barkynerve says:

Mark has a point. Your headline immediately makes us assume that he was arrested after a fight. Some people wouldn’t bother to read the whole article and just stick with that assumption. You should make it clearer instead of going for an article heading that grabs people’s attention.

  5. Whosyadaddy says:

And finishing off by associating him with known scumbags Terry and Cole just smacks of tarring him with the same brush.

  6. Wasimius Magxius says:

chill out u guys we dont need another fracas here . btw wilshere was taken into police custody

  7. Mark says:

This blogger knows how its done.

Shedloads of Arsenal* Bashing = Shedloads of Hits

*applies to all the top clubs

  8. barkynerve says:

This reminds me of that article he released a while ago, claiming that Fabregas had “moved on”, or something like that. People freaked out and put him (This Ollie Irish guy) in his place, thankfully. Sensationalist articles just make the writer look bad.

  9. woolwich says:

Shit article no content. Amateur sun journalism.

  10. Ollie Irish says:

@ Swandive: Why thanks dude – it’s a major snooze dealing with some of these tribal, kneejerk cretins.

The problem, as you can see above, is the ‘fans’ who don’t have any appreciation for the rest of what Pies does, who just barge in, read a couple of words (sometimes just the headline), leave a baseless and/or offensive comment, and leave. It’s just rude.

I don’t see how this post is substantially different to, say, this article:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/29/jack-wilshere-arrested-arsenal-england

It’s not as if fracas is my choice of word. I even put it in quote marks in the fricking headline.

The idiots are winning. Woolwich, Mark and barkynerve, if you can’t take even the slightest hint of anti-Arsenal comment (of which there is none in this post, btw) then perhaps you’d better stick to Arsenal-specific sites in future.

@ Whosyadaddy – I wasn’t literally tarring Wilshere with the same brush. It was a satirical point, sunshine. Maybe not dazzling satire, but hey, this is a light-hearted football website, not a Joseph Heller novel.

Love WAATP – I’m actually from Wigan by birth, so the pie thing was an animalistic urge. Comments above – love ’em – shows em up for what they are – eejits with no sense of humour. I’m a Manchester City fan for flips sake – £1bn and we still take the proverbial when we lose to team managed by an elephant man (alledged, not our opionion, “this post reflects the opinions of their authors and do not reflect the opinion of this site”). Keep up the good work, fellow Pie-Eater!

I don’t think an author can be responsible if someone reads a headline and makes an assumption without reading the rest of the piece. It’d be like assuming To Kill A Mockingbird is about hunting and getting irritated at the author when it wasn’t(okay that’s pushing it a little far- but you get the idea)
It’s a headline- the art of the headline is to grab as much attention as possible in the fewest words.

And if people don’t like the comic, somewhat irreverent tone of this website(mixed with knowledgable commentary on the game as well) they can go get their news somewhere else- like the league websites. And if they want news that make’s their own favourite team shine in the best light go to the team’s official page.
Not to mention there are plenty of arse-tightly-clenched srs bizness soccer sites out there where you can’t have any with the game without being painted as ‘not a true fan’, ‘not a true lover of the game’, etc. You can love fußball AND see the humour in the game and the culture surronding the game.

One of the reasons I love this site so much is because it does have fun with the game and the foibles of footy and footy players.
And I consider myself true and true a footy fan- I just don’t think it’s blasphamy to have a laugh at a player or the game.
I’m also an Arsenal fan and have been for my entire life- it’s my favourite team in the world only second to Schalke04. I don’t fly off the handle if someone doesn’t feel the same about the team. And I especially don’t have a flip out if an author words a headline in a way that might vaguely create an assuption about one of our players.

Jack Wilshere is a professional footballer who knows that being in the media(with good press, bad press and everything in between) is part of the modern game. I don’t think he’s going to be crying because a humourous fußball blog wrote a headline that didn’t specifically include all the facts that he was arrested but was released and not going to face charges. Especially when those facts are in the article along with the headline.
    Sheesh….

  13. frank says:

f**king get a grip. this is a satirical unbias website that is harmless and humourous. Arsenal fans=joke

  14. pete n pete says:

don’t listen to these humorless football “fans” ollie. i always enjoy looking at your site, keep up the good work.

  15. Gaz says:

The police have not said he is innocent. (Nor have they said he is guilty)
They are suppose to have taken finger prints and a mug shot, by that you would assume he did something wrong.
Great website Ollie, but where is all the Pompey news!!!

  16. Lloyd says:

What has Ollie done wrong Arse fans? He didn’t even point out that it was weird that Wilshere got arrested despite being a ‘peacemaker’. Sheesh

  17. BeeBo says:

    Released on Bail…………………

Mmmm that doesn’t happen unless you’ve been arrested.

Its the first I’ve heard of an innocent peace maker being “released” on “Bail”.

Something is not adding up here

  18. Zedie says:

Arsenal fan here. I dont give a shit if Jacky got into a scuff in a night club. Hes not the first 18 year old and he wont be the last..

    A

  19. Zedie says:

As for all of lil bitches complaining about Ollie taking the piss out of Wiltshire, GET A GRIP.

Even though hes a spud, if this was Ledley King behaving like this (i’ll give it 2 weeks going by his record), he’d also probably write a similar article.

I cant wait to see the media/reader reaction when Stevie G is porperly brought out over his prego sister in law. They’ll probably be getting the pitch forks out for you Ollie!
