Arsenal 5-0 Aston Villa – Premier League – 1st February 2015

Arsenal comfortably swept aside a dismal Aston Villa side at the Emirates on Sunday, with Paul Lambert’s side now well and truly in danger of relegation in May.

Despite the absence of Alexis Sanchez through injury, the Gunners impressed throughout, with Mesut Ozil superb in midfield. Indeed, it was the German schemer who set up Olivier Giroud’s opener on eight minutes before adding the second himself after the break. The flicked assist for Giroud’s goal was outstanding while Ozil’s goal itself was a fine effort.

Theo Walcott produced a fine Thierry Henry-esque finish just after the hour-mark to make it 3-0 with a penalty from Santi Cazorla which Brad Guzan really should have saved) and a first goal for youngster Hector Bellerin finishing off a fine team performance. As for Villa, they rarely threatened and look a side devoid of belief as well as quality.

Arsene Wenger’s men go fifth, level on points with Southampton while the Villans are now just three points above the drop-zone.
