Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea – Premier League – 7th February 2015
In his 100th game in the Premier League as Villa boss, Paul Lambert saw his side finally end their goal drought, albeit in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
Eden Hazard opened the scoring early on as the Blues looked headed for a comfortable afternoon. However, the Villans fought back with Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois’ flappiness giving hope to the hosts. Eventually, Villa did bag a rare goal, courtesy of a close-range effort from an unmarked Jores Okore after some clever work from Carles Gil.That strike energised Lambert’s men but in the end a powerful strike from Branislav Ivanovic would win it for the Blues.
Jose Mourinho’s men now find themselves headed for the title, with a seven point lead over second-place Man City while Villa are 16th, just two points clear of danger.
